Subscribe or download?

Those two words mean different things, and picking the wrogn one is the most common problem people hit. Subscribing points your calendar app at the feed address and lets it re-check periodically, so when we correct a date or add a year, your calendar picks the change up on its own. Downloading the .ics file imports a fixed snapshot: the events land in your calendar as ordinary entries you own, but they never update again, and deleting them later means removing each one by hand. For holidays, subscribing is almost always the better choice.

Holidays arrive as all-day events marked "free" rather than "busy", so they show up as a banner across the top of the day without blocking meeting invitations - where a holiday falls on a weekend and is observed on a different weekday, the feed uses the observed date — the day offices actually close — and notes the real date in the event description. Every event links back to its page here, so tapping an entry on your phone opens the history, the closure list and the dates for this year and next.

A note on refresh times

Calendar apps decide their own refresh schedule and none of them check constantly. Google Calendar typically re-reads a subscribed feed every 8 to 24 hours, Apple Calendar lets you choose the interval in its settings, and Outlook is somewhere in between. If you have just subscribed and the events are not visible yet, give it a few hours before assuming something went wrong, feeds cover 2026 through 2027, so there is nothing to renew in the meantime.

Which feed should you pick?

Take the narrowest one that covers you. A U.S. reader who only cares about the days that close federal offices wants the United States feed; a state employee is better served by their own state's feed, which adds the state holidays the federal list leaves out and drops the federal days their state does not observe. Subscribing to several feeds at once works fine β€” calendar apps keep them as separate, individually colour-coded calendars you can toggle on and off β€” but two overlapping feeds will show the same holiday twice, so pick one per country rather than stacking a national feed on top of a state one.

Individual holidays have their own feed link on each holiday page, and every year list also offers CSV and PDF downloads if you would rather have a spreadsheet or something printable. Corrections and requests for feeds we do not yet publish are welcome through the contact page.
