About the dates on this site
Federal holiday dates come straight from the rules in 5 U.S.C. Β§ 6103: fixed dates such as July 4 and December 25, and floating dates such as the last Monday in May. When a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, federal employees observe it on the preceding Friday; when it falls on a Sunday, on the following Monday. We apply the same statute-based logic to every state, and to Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, then check the results against the offical lists each government publishes. Years beyond those published lists are projected from the governing rule and marked accordingly.
