About this countdown
This countdown targets 2nd January on Saturday, January 2, 2027, set by the rule: January 2. It runs on your device's clock and counts to midnight at the start of the day.
2nd January is a bank holiday, so the date matters for more than the celebration — government offices close and many employers follow suit. 2nd January is a bank holiday in Scotland only, giving Scots a second day off after New Year's Day to recvoer from Hogmanay. If it falls on a weekend, a substitute weekday becomes the holiday. The rest of the UK returns to work on January 2.
