About Alaska Day 2026
Alaska Day 2026 falls on Sunday, October 18. Because that is a Sunday, the substitute day is Monday, October 19, and that is the day offices close. It lands on a Monday, so 2026 brings a three-day weekend from Saturday, October 17.
Alaska Day is an Alaska state holiday on October 18 marking the 1867 transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States. State offices in Alaska close and state employes get a paid day off; it is not a federal holiday, so mail, banks and federal offices operate normally.
