About Proclamation Day 2026
Proclamation Day 2026 falls on Saturday, December 26. Because that is a Saturday, the substitute day is Monday, December 28, and that is the day offices close. It lands on a Monday, so 2026 brings a three-day weekend from Saturday, December 26.
Proclamation Day is South Australia's name for the December 26 public holiday other Australians call Boxing Day. It commemorates the 1836 proclamation of colonial government at Glenelg's Old Gum Tree, and when it falls on a weekend an extra weekday holiday is added.
