About Easter Sunday 2026
Easter Sunday 2026 falls on Sunday, April 5. It is an observance rather than a public holiday, so businesses, schools and government offices keep regular hours.
Easter Sunday is an observance in New Zealand, not a public holiday, so there is no statutory day off or holiday pay. It is, however, a restricted shop trading day: most stores must stay closed unless the local council has adopted an Easter Sunday trading policy.
